I spent a lot of time reviewing and researching motorized shades. There are a ton of options out there and the cost can vary WILDLY. What I came down to was either Lutron or something using matter/thread such that I could integrate this with any ecosystem. I’m using all iPhones, AppleTVs and HomePods however I spent the little extra on the matter/thread version (My unfounded hunch is firmware upgrades will be more likely for the more “universal” model).
My research came down to a couple key issues or differences (Lutron vs SmartWings vs all others) :
1. Noise level: where Lutron is supposed to shine. I believe Lutron may be quieter but the SmartWings rollers - while you can hear them - it’s very nominal. For me personally this is not near enough an issue to justify a premium. When my shades run on automation I don’t even notice them when I’m in the same room.
2. Synchronization: I have a bank of 5 windows/shades, another bank of 3, and 4 rooms with a pair. It is true they do not *exactly* lower and raise in perfect unison. They DO start and stop evenly - that would annoy me if not - but they are not precisely aligned as they come down. When they get the command they each start moving a fraction apart time wise. That is another point for Lutron which supposedly stays perfectly level between shades but practically speaking imo this makes no difference.
3. Connectivity: I do use Lutron for lights and they are rock solid. I’ve had dozens of switches in a couple houses for 10 or so years and only a handful of times a light didn’t respond. So I’m sure the shades are equally rock solid. That said, in the 2-3 weeks I’ve been using SmartWings (15 shades and playing around with them quite a bit) they have only not responded 2-3 times (for ex 1 out of 5 shades not closing in a group). Respeaking the Siri command or tapping the button on the phone again has always rectified the non responder.
App wise I do like you don’t need another app (at least for Apple; everything is set up and handled in HomeKit/home app). To be fair luton, after set up, also works right inside of the home app.
4. Design: I went with basic white shades (Lutron has more choices but that was irrelevant for me) and as a plus to the SmartWings, the motor and battery is contained within the roller tube vs more bulk above the roller (‘entry’ level Lutron and many others). To me these are simpler, less obvious, and the much cheaper SmartWings surpass the entry level Lutron’s and near the very highest end Lutron’s. Big plus for SmartWings.
5. All others: SmartWings vs all other brands was an easy choice. SmartWings have matter/thread which is more or less going to be the standard. They cost far less, the esthetics are imo best (motor and battery within roller), they shipped fast, and the customer service this far has been excellent. .
In summary: if money is no object, Lutron is a good way to go. It’s a SLIM difference but true slightly better (at the top end of the luton line… Not all may agree but at the entry level I’m not sure noise or syncronization of entry level luton trumps the motor/battery within the tube & compactness of the SmartWings). But if you don’t want to spend literally 4-5x for Lutron, SmartWings are absolutely THE way to go.
I ordered on blind to test out and was completely surprised in the ease of install and quality of the product! These are ultra quiet compared to some others. Great product, will be ordering the rest of the house soon.
We really love our shades! They are perfect for our extremely large windows and style of our modern cabin. We love the renters and how easy it was to install the shades and program the remotes. I would give the whole prices a ten. In particular the online chat was so helpful in both the ordering process and when we had installation questions.

Package arrived with small damage, luckily not noticeable. The shade is packed very well, and the quality of the product is excellent. Instructions are easy to follow and accurate. If you're mounting on wood be prepared to provide your own screws. Instructions for programming the motor are thorough but must be read carefully. My shade was about 100 in long and required (4) mounting brackets, so care in bracket alignment and leveling pays off when trying to mount the shade on the brackets. Because of it's length, two people were required to mount the shade. The solar panel is easy to mount and works beautifully; truly a worthwhile expenditure. Overall, I'm very pleased with the quality and performance of this motorized shade. My only criticism is in the clarity of the ordering form with regard to shade size. I managed to get it right, but I can see where others might have some doubt as to the correct measurement.
I love these shades. They were easy to install and work fine. I am now waiting for an Echo hub to be delivered to enable all the features. I highly recommend SmartWings as a reliable vendor.
These smartblinds really make life much easier! We have done 2 rooms already, 1 room last year and 1 room now, all large windows and they work flawlessly! We get the Z-wave motors and they work perfect with our phone, Alexa or the remote. We also get the solar panels for charging, other than the initial charge we did when we first set them up, the ones from 1yr ago have not needed a charge yet. We originally priced from Lutron, these 4 windows were 8k! Smartwings was 1/4 the price and I just couldn't see where the extra 6k was with Lutron? Bedrooms are next, then outside!
Hi Smartwings! Apologies for the delay in providing feedback on the blinds. We bought these for our vacation home back in December and just now had a chance to visit and install them. We LOVE them!!! Will be buying more!
Really like our new Smartwings roller shade. Original shipment arrived damaged; not surprising as skinny package was 8-1/2 feet long. Customer service shipped a replacement for the bent valance and easy instructions to transfer the shade cartridge to it. (Should your shipment appear imperfect, take many photos before and during opening the package and save the shipping labels!) Adding the Matter roller to our smart home automation hub was a 30 second process - once we found the QR code on the inside bottom of the shade fabric.
The blinds fit perfectly. Husband and I installed all 5 of them with no issue. They are all integrated with Alexa too. I've heard that your customer support was really good but luckily there was no need to call. We like how quiet the blinds are and how they let in just enough light when closed. We will probably buy some more for the rest of the house.
I have installed two 70 percent light filtering shades. The installation was straight forward. I think smartwings should include the lower valence in the initial cost given how small it is in relation to the size of the upper roller cover. The installation went without any issues.
Very well constructed. Very nice looking and work quite well. Easy to connect with Matter and the remote. I also like the solar charging for the battery. Can't wait to buy some more for my home.

We love our motorized shades! The look is clean and uncluttered, and the shades will stay clean because there is no need to touch them.
. Installation was quick and easy. The packaging was excellent. The company is awesome to work with. I made an error in ordering and SmartWings sent me a replacement at a minimum cost to me. I am delighted to recommend this company.
I ordered the sample swatches and found this beautiful cream color shade that matched my almond-colored ceramic tile perfectly! The shade is not only beautiful but so so practical. I love that I can let light into my bathroom at the push of a button. The Zigbee motor can be programmed to work on a schedule and even with my Amazon Alexa! It was easy to measure and order exactly what I wanted. I messaged Smart Wings customer service with questions about my specific window and the service was so helpful and quick.
