Window Covering Safety Standard- Effective June 2024

The revised safety standard ( American National Standards Institute / Window Covering Manufacturers Association , A100.1-2022) took effect on June 1, 2024, reflecting the ongoing commitment of safety agencies to enhance child protection. This update eliminates free-hanging and tilt cords on custom window coverings, requiring all stock products to be cordless or have inaccessible cords.

The standard also prohibits continuous cord loops on horizontal slatted products. Consumers should look for the “Best for Kids” certification to identify cordless options. It is highly recommended to replace corded blinds in homes with children, ensuring a safer environment year after year.
