FAQs
Do cellular shades help save energy?
Do cellular shades help save energy?
Yes — cellular shades are one of the most energy-efficient window treatments available.
Their honeycomb-shaped cells trap air, creating an insulating barrier between your window and the room.
In summer, they help block heat from entering your home, reducing the need for air conditioning. In winter, they help retain indoor warmth.
Many homeowners notice lower energy bills and more consistent indoor temperatures after installing cellular shades.
What’s the difference between single cell and double cell?
What’s the difference between single cell and double cell?
Both single cell and double cell cellular shades are designed to improve comfort and energy efficiency — the right choice depends on your needs, budget, and climate.
Single cell shades feature one layer of honeycomb pockets. They offer reliable insulation, a clean profile, and great value, making them a popular choice for everyday use and moderate climates.
Double cell shades include two layers of air pockets, creating an extra barrier against heat and cold. This design enhances insulation, helping maintain more stable indoor temperatures — especially in rooms with strong sun exposure or more extreme weather conditions.
Many homeowners choose double cell shades for sun-facing rooms or summer heat control, while using single cell shades in other areas to stay within budget.
Are blackout cellular shades better for insulation?
Are blackout cellular shades better for insulation?
Yes — blackout cellular shades generally provide better insulation than light-filtering options.
Their denser fabric helps reduce heat transfer more effectively. In general, blackout fabrics have a thermal resistance (R-value) of around 0.7–1.2 m²·K/W, with thicker fabrics offering stronger insulation performance.
Color can also play a role: lighter shades tend to reflect more heat, while darker shades absorb more light and warmth.
For enhanced energy efficiency, pairing blackout fabric with a double-cell structure can further improve insulation — especially during hotter months.
Are cellular shades a good choice for noise reduction?
Are cellular shades a good choice for noise reduction?
Yes — cellular shades can help reduce noise levels in your home.
Their honeycomb structure traps air within the cells, which helps absorb and dampen sound. While they won’t completely block out noise, they can noticeably soften outside sounds and create a quieter, more comfortable indoor environment.
They’re a great option for anyone who values a more peaceful space — especially light sleepers or households with young children, such as nurseries.
Which rooms benefit most from honeycomb shades?
Which rooms benefit most from honeycomb shades?
Cellular shades are versatile and work well in almost any room, but they’re especially beneficial in:
- Bedrooms – for better insulation, light control, and privacy
- Living rooms – to maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the day
- Home offices – to reduce glare and improve focus
- Sun-exposed rooms – to block heat and protect interiors from UV damage
They’re particularly valuable in rooms with large windows or strong sunlight exposure, where energy efficiency makes the biggest difference.

SmartWings Motorized Light Filtering Cellular Shades Nowa Designer Texture Helios
Love the shades! Easy to install and pair with SmartThings, looks premium and durable
SmartWings Motorized Light Filtering Cellular Shades Nowa Designer Texture Helios
I added short usb c cables to extend the charging ports because upper shades blocked access to the charging port. I ordered matter motors and I control the shades thru Apple Home. Very easy to connect to Apple Home and to add automations. Make sure you triple check your measurements! Mine fit well. My old cellular shades hung down about 4 inches when fully opened. My new SmartThings shades compress much better and virtually hide under my upper shade when fully opened. This was an unexpected bonus! Customer support was excellent in helping me with questions I had with placing my order as I wanted to get it right. They seem pricey but not so compared to other brands. They are worth the cost!
SmartWings Motorized Light Filtering and Blackout Cellular Shades Nowa Designer Texture Helios
Excellent blind - it was super easy to fit and so much cheaper than some of the alternatives. The customer service was also excellent when I had a few hiccups connecting to Alexa. My only feedback is that I wish they had more fun colours! I went with light cream, which is fine but if they ever release more colours I’ll definitely buy another one
SmartWings Motorized Light Filtering and Blackout Cellular Shades Nowa Designer Texture Helios
These shades are simply the best. We can set mid-point stops as well as anything in-between. They come factory programmed with full open and full close already so everything else (25%, 50%, 75%) is also programmable in Alexa, the app itself, HomeKit, etc.

The best thing about working with SmartWings motorized shades is that they go up so quickly. Every order that we've placed has been packaged so well and protected from mishaps during shipping that they've arrived without damage. All shades and blinds are equipped with placement guides, screws and anchors as well as charging cables (not transformers) and are ready to install with a ladder and simple tools. We're up and running and enjoying our shades in less than 1/2 hour!

These shades are awesome! So easy to install and they literally take minutes. All the instructions are included step by step with the necessary brackets and screws. They look beautiful and the blackout capability really makes the room dark too.
SmartWings Motorized Light Filtering and Blackout Cellular Shades Nowa Designer Texture Helios
These pleated shades are exceptional. We installed them in the kids room with the blackout option and they work perfectly. They are packaged perfectly and securely. In fact, I'd wish that other companies would use these as examples!! Installation was quick and effortless and when it came time to try the remote control on both shades, they open and close in unison. We are extremely happy with these.
SmartWings Motorized Light Filtering and Blackout Cellular Shades Nowa Designer Texture Helios
Looks great and really works amazing! I'm a quadriplegic without the ability to manually put blinds up or down, so this greatly increases my independence! Not only am I able to adjust shades by voice or through the remote or through my phone, having routines set up for different times of day is really great and allows me not even have to think about making adjustments most of the time. What a fortunate find!

My second order for these great cellular shades. Clean, modern design with a wide range of customisation options. I was impressed when their customer service reached out to me for additional customisation for the stopping positions (less than 20”). I will be ordering more in future!
