FAQs
Do cellular shades help save energy?
Do cellular shades help save energy?
Yes — cellular shades are one of the most energy-efficient window treatments available.
Their honeycomb-shaped cells trap air, creating an insulating barrier between your window and the room.
In summer, they help block heat from entering your home, reducing the need for air conditioning. In winter, they help retain indoor warmth.
Many homeowners notice lower energy bills and more consistent indoor temperatures after installing cellular shades.
What’s the difference between single cell and double cell?
What’s the difference between single cell and double cell?
Both single cell and double cell cellular shades are designed to improve comfort and energy efficiency — the right choice depends on your needs, budget, and climate.
Single cell shades feature one layer of honeycomb pockets. They offer reliable insulation, a clean profile, and great value, making them a popular choice for everyday use and moderate climates.
Double cell shades include two layers of air pockets, creating an extra barrier against heat and cold. This design enhances insulation, helping maintain more stable indoor temperatures — especially in rooms with strong sun exposure or more extreme weather conditions.
Many homeowners choose double cell shades for sun-facing rooms or summer heat control, while using single cell shades in other areas to stay within budget.
Are blackout cellular shades better for insulation?
Are blackout cellular shades better for insulation?
Yes — blackout cellular shades generally provide better insulation than light-filtering options.
Their denser fabric helps reduce heat transfer more effectively. In general, blackout fabrics have a thermal resistance (R-value) of around 0.7–1.2 m²·K/W, with thicker fabrics offering stronger insulation performance.
Color can also play a role: lighter shades tend to reflect more heat, while darker shades absorb more light and warmth.
For enhanced energy efficiency, pairing blackout fabric with a double-cell structure can further improve insulation — especially during hotter months.
Are cellular shades a good choice for noise reduction?
Are cellular shades a good choice for noise reduction?
Yes — cellular shades can help reduce noise levels in your home.
Their honeycomb structure traps air within the cells, which helps absorb and dampen sound. While they won’t completely block out noise, they can noticeably soften outside sounds and create a quieter, more comfortable indoor environment.
They’re a great option for anyone who values a more peaceful space — especially light sleepers or households with young children, such as nurseries.
Which rooms benefit most from honeycomb shades?
Which rooms benefit most from honeycomb shades?
Cellular shades are versatile and work well in almost any room, but they’re especially beneficial in:
- Bedrooms – for better insulation, light control, and privacy
- Living rooms – to maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the day
- Home offices – to reduce glare and improve focus
- Sun-exposed rooms – to block heat and protect interiors from UV damage
They’re particularly valuable in rooms with large windows or strong sunlight exposure, where energy efficiency makes the biggest difference.

Love the mobility and movement of the blinds. They also have a very elegant look compared to different types of blinds
The product looks and feels high-quality. It’s very easy to use with the remote that comes with it. Installation was relatively easy with two people. The only thing that didn’t turn out as we expected is the Alexa that we have at home is too old to work with the smart device. I am not sure if we just missed reading the requirements when we were purchasing or it was not clearly mentioned in the product information. Overall, we’re happy with the product for its price and we already purchased a second one for our other bedroom. We also recommended the brand to our other family member who ended up purchasing their own.
I have Serena shades and these are as good quality at half the price. Quick fulfillment.
I initially purchased one Matter enabled SmartWings shade. It took a bit of effort to verify I could integrate into my Matter system - the shade worked fine, it was a learning curve to get rest of the Matter system working. Once that was working as expected, I ordered 5 more SmartWings shades. We can control the shades easily with the SmartWings remote. I am working on getting the shades controlled automatically with my Matter system based on the morning sun schedule.
Easy to add to Hubitat with zwave LR motor. Top and bottom rail adjustments are very convenient
great shade- easy to add to hubitat with zwave motor
These shades get MORE than 5 stars!!! They are wonderful! Living in a townhouse with a ground floor bedroom was a big privacy problem, especially that we like the morning light. Now, with three parallel shades coming down from the top, we have BOTH lots of light AND lots of privacy. Either "top-down" or "bottom-up" or Both, it's a perfect combination. So easy to install, too. We used double sided adhesive tape to run the charging wires along the moldings, and it doesn't show. We LOVE these "Levitate" shades! So glad to have found the Smart Wings company!
Install was simple. Took some messing around to figure out the top down bottom up feature in the app, but once had that, it works great. Integration with Alexa was basically automatic after set up in the app. Great product and purchase experience.
Easy install. Perfect measurements.
I love the blind. This is my second SmartWing. When I received it, it was not completely level—out by 5/15 of an inch. With the help of their excellent support agents, I was able to make a fine adjustment. Now it's perfect!
Prefect choice for our master bathroom 5 foot by 5 foot window over our soaker tub. Top goes down and bottom up. Fast and easy installation. Fit is perfect! They look fantastic.
Installation was fast and easy. Setting up the remotes went well too. Great fit and they work well.
Love my new cellular Shades. Fit is snug, precisely measured. Noticeable heat conservation, which was a main motivator. Installation was a breeze. Set-up of matter automation equally straightforward. Printed instructions could be improved: they were more confusing than useful. Fortunately, they weren’t really needed. Suggestion: include instructions on how to remove existing blinds. Then start with a quick setup guide, specific to the model at hand. Then, at the end, mention details or a QR code linking to detailed instructions. Finally, jump fully on the Matter over Thread bandwagon, drop all the other options, and stop overcharging for the matter over thread motor. Yes, I would recommend these to a friend (I have), and yes, I would buy these again (I will).
Smartwings exceeded our expectations. Not only are the blinds beautiful but are energy efficient (keep heat / cool in / out during the winter / summer). The automation was a breeze to setup. Also, support is great. I had a minor issue with one of our blinds and smartwings got back to me within a day with a tutorial video that got me working in 5 minute. I highly recommend and have recommended them to our friends.
Easy install and the colors are perfect. Great blinds , movement is smooth and precise.
We are very impressed with this company. They were very helpful as we did our measuring. Very responsive when we had a couple questions about how to install the motorized shade. The blackout is fabulous in our master bedroom. We definitely will be ordering for the rest of the house. Highly recommend. Appreciated a discount code as well.
I love these motorized blinds. They arrived surprisingly quickly, and the build quality is better than any window blind I have ever bought. I'm already planning to install more SmartWings products in my home.

Love my new shades. Looks great on my windows and fits perfectly. Installing was pretty straight forward and customer service was very helpful when I had questions.
I'm always hesitant to write reviews about products I just purchased because longevity is important, but I can say that my initial experience with the SmartWings Levitate has been great. Installation was easy and exactly the same as any other brand of non-motorized shade I've ever installed. Adding it to Home Assistant took less than 10 seconds, and both top-down and bottom-up control have worked flawlessly in the time that I've had it.
Easy install. Great product.
They are just awesome! I can't believe I waited so long to give them a try.
Awesome!
Wow! Love the blue color, quiet motor, and great quality of materials. Was easy to install myself. Will be buying more and telling everyone about these motorized blackout blinds. Remote works great and so easy to charge the blinds.
